Vases in glass and metal

Ora
2025

Ora consists of three vases from the ongoing series Landscape of Vases. Each piece in the series is unique, mouth-blown and shaped by hand. Through shifting angles and reflections, the vases create changing visual landscapes, inviting endless possibilities for arrangement and interaction.

The works can stand alone as individual sculptural objects or connect with one another and with other vases from the series to form evolving compositions and floral arrangements. This openness encourages play, curiosity, and transformation within everyday space.

The name Ora can mean border, boundary, or coast. The title refers both to the natural landscapes that inspired the forms and to the idea of boundaries as something fluid rather than fixed. The works explore how borders can simultaneously separate and connect.

In relation to the exhibition theme, Ora reflects on the boundary as a point of encounter. The vases challenge conventional expectations of what a vase can be, shifting the boundary between functional object and sculptural form. Their changing relationships of connecting, separating, enclosing, or opening space, allow the works to form boundaries or dissolve them. Through this continuous reconfiguration, the pieces invite viewers to reconsider boundaries not as rigid divisions, but as spaces of exchange, transformation, and connection.

Sigrid Luitsalu is an Estonian glass artist and designer whose work explores the relationship between material, nature, and inner experience. Her creative practice is shaped by a multidisciplinary background that includes studies in philosophy and Asian studies.

As an artist, she is interested in the patterns of both nature and the self. She draws inspiration from the continual transformation and growth of nature's living forms and one's inner world.

Her glass practice is characterised by an experimental and meditative approach to materials and technique. Through form, texture, and light, her work often reflects a balance between fragility and strength, stillness and movement, inviting quiet contemplation.

Since establishing her own studio in 2020, Luitsalu has exhibited internationally, including at events such as Venice Glass Week and Milan Design Week, and has participated in group exhibitions across Europe and the United States.
