Soft Boundaries – Boundaries as Zones of Contact
2026
Soft Boundaries. Boundaries as Zones of Contact emerges from the encounter between Art4Women, an innovative startup that creates connections between artists and businesses through projects integrating art, creativity, and innovation; ReWeave, a California-based brand that brings together design, sustainability, craftsmanship, and local production; and Laura GuildA, an artist from Art4Women’s international community whose practice revolves around textiles, craftsmanship, and practices traditionally associated with women’s work.
The starting point of the project is ReWeave’s VersaStool 3, a soft, layered pouf upholstered in sustainable off-white fabric. The design object thus becomes both the surface and the material for the artistic intervention.
Laura GuildA intervenes on the fabric through stitching in different colours, tracing sinuous and fluid lines across its surface, inspired by the shape of lips and the gesture of a kiss, understood as a universal symbol of encounter and connection.
Stitching is freed from its exclusively technical function to become an artistic gesture and visual language. What would normally and silently join two pieces of fabric emerges onto the surface and becomes visible: the boundary is no longer understood as an element of separation, but as a zone of contact, a porous space in which different identities, materials, and languages can meet and transform one another.
The final work thus inhabits a liminal space between design and contemporary art: it is both seating and sculpture, product and artwork, functional surface and narrative skin. An everyday object becomes a space for relationship and experimentation, bringing production, craftsmanship, and contemporary artistic practice into dialogue.
Laura GuildA
Laura GuildA, a German artist based in Milan, develops a practice at the intersection of contemporary art and textile-based practices. Stitching, weaving, knitting, knotting, and fibre work become tools through which she explores themes related to fashion, production, the environment, and contemporary society. In Soft Boundaries, this research meets ReWeave’s design and sustainability ethos, transforming textiles into a shared space for connection.
Art4Women
The collaboration was developed within the framework of Art4Women, an organisation founded in Milan with the aim of connecting artistic talent with the business world, creating new opportunities for collaboration between artists and companies. Its international community is open to artists of all genders, with a particular focus on supporting female talent and using art as a tool to facilitate women’s access to new professional and economic opportunities and contribute to reducing the gender gap.
In 2024, the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy supported its launch through the Fondo Impresa Femminile. Since then, Art4Women has developed projects that integrate art into companies’ communication, innovation, and social responsibility strategies through art branding, artist residencies, corporate collections, events, and ESG projects. In 2025, it was also selected by the Italian Trade Agency for the Global Startup Program, taking part in an acceleration programme in Los Angeles and strengthening its international outlook. This journey led to the collaboration with ReWeave.
ReWeave
ReWeave was founded in Los Angeles on the belief that luxury can be reimagined through a more sustainable and responsible model. The brand repurposes fabric samples sourced from interior design showrooms, transforming them into unique pieces designed and produced locally. Alongside its environmental commitment is a social one: ReWeave supports organisations that promote training and employment pathways for people facing barriers to employment.
