Beyond Seeing / art and design accessible to blind and visually impaired people.

Oltre al Vedere (Beyond Seeing) is a project curated by Francesca Brambilla and born in the context of Cultura Meccanica® for the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Politecnico di Milano in collaboration with the National Association of the Visually Impaired, with the aim of making art and design accessible to blind and visually impaired people. Through innovative devices and audio-tactile paths, the project turns what is normally perceived through sight alone into an inclusive multi-sensory experience capable of engaging diverse audiences while promoting a new accessibility culture.

Eclisse, Vico Magistretti, 1965

After the realization, in 2024, of the first multi-sensory audio-tactile board dedicated to the preparatory cartoon of the Scuola di Atene by Raffaello - today accessible at Pinacoteca Ambrosiana in Milan - the project continues its journey of research applied to cultural heritage and design. On the occasion of Lake Como Design Festival, the sensory version of the famous Eclisse lamp by Vico Magistretti, developed within the context of Oltre al Vedere, will be presented to the public. This experience will allow people to explore the object through touch and sound, turning the perception on light into an accessible language enjoyable for anyone.
