Rasalhague-C

A boundary embodies the tension of change. Although a boundary is often perceived as a limitation, it is, above all, a condition of transformation, a threshold to be crossed. It is the place where two opposites stand face to face: where one ends, the other begins.
The Form changes there: closure and then an opening, a shift in culture or rules, the relationship between two individuals. More than that, a boundary is also a condition of the mind, beyond which no solution can yet be imagined. Through study and the gradual expansion of awareness, what once seemed unattainable eventually becomes possible, generating new boundaries to be crossed. The mind transforms, reaching a new level of consciousness. A boundary defines identity, yet it is also what makes it possible to transcend it. All knowledge originates from a limit, while every act of research consists in continuously questioning those limits in the pursuit of overcoming them.
PLASMA-f presents Rasalhague-C, Sabik and Han: a console, a shelf and a stool. The first is made of carbon steel sheets, processed and assembled using bolts. Its horizontal surface is a 2 mm thick, 2.20-metre-long post-stressed steel sheet. At rest, the steel bends much like a sheet of paper; once placed under tension, however, it becomes a taut horizontal surface. Thanks to an innovative tensioning system, the material is used according to its mechanical properties, reducing both the weight of the object and the amount of material required. Sabik is a shelf, here reinterpreted as a freestanding object-tool, while Han is a stool that is both height-adjustable and stackable, ensuring flexibility and practicality within a space that is constantly in motion.
The boundary is the place of transformation. It belongs neither to one side nor the other, but to the relationship between the two.
PLASMA-f is an emerging furniture brand based in Milan, its goal is to bring craftsmanship back to the centre of the discussion, understading design as a process of transformation. Founded in early 2023 by architect and self-taught designer Alberto Smaldone, PLASMA-f produces and distributes furniture that balances simplicity and complexity. Through a dialogue between the knowledge of making by hand and the intellectual process of design, the practice sets out in search of a truth, inhabiting the boundary as the place where a new vision emerges.
