Sentire la terra – Ancestral Poetics
A project in deep connection with matter, born from the desire to tell stories intertwined with places and fragments of lived experiences that belong to us. It is a true dialogue between elements—primordial forms and textures, wild clays and rocks—bound together by an essential relationship with the earth.
Using perhaps the oldest technique ever employed in the making of artifacts, known as the coiling method or "colombino" technique, a series of hand-built vessels comes to life. These pieces speak of instinctive forms and their fragility through an ancestral poetics.
Each piece is shaped through three main phases: the first is a genuine emotional exploration that leads to the choice of specific places, where materials can be sought out and gathered.
The second phase is a metamorphosis of matter: rocks, wild clays, and collected glass are broken, crushed, and transformed in form. Finally comes the phase of rebirth—one single act—a transmutation of memory through a specific gesture that leaves its imprint on the surface of each piece, making it unique and unrepeatable.
Laura Rota, a multifaceted artist, founded her studio, Materica, in 2017. Having graduated from Art School with a specialisation in sculpture, during her subsequent in-depth studies in the world of art and design, she had the opportunity to get to know and experiment with different artistic expressions, but always with a parti cular attraction and propensity for materiality and three-dimensionality. His attention is thus focused on research into materials, and clay becomes the absolute protagonist of all his production.
