Terra Ukraїna – Terra 002

‘This story is composed of multiple fragments: the experience of loss and the awareness of the indescribable richness of the earth, overlaid and remembered in colourful landscapes,’ says designer Tetiana Shaleva. The realistic landscapes of the Terra Ukraïna series are aesthetically and conceptually poised between art, design, culture of care, respect for traditions and environmental awareness.

Motivated and inspired by the work Terra Galicia by Ukrainian photographer Yurko Dyachyshyn, Shaleva creates each piece as a work of art, where thousands of tiny loops of wool yarn seem to visually and tactilely invite us to listen to the story that the earth

whispers. Carpets that weave memory and territory and tell the story of Ukraine's wounded but resilient cultural identity.

LCDF thanks Anastasiia Biletska, independent curator, for her collaboration

Tetiana Shaleva is an architect and designer graduated from the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. Her education has shaped a multidimensional approach to design, combining technical knowledge and artistic sensitivity. In addition to mastering structural and engineering disciplines, Tetiana has immersed herself in art in all its forms. In recent years, she has worked on a wide range of projects, from public spaces to private homes, creating unique and emotionally grounded interiors. Her design philosophy is rooted in the belief that space and objects profoundly influence daily life and well-being. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, he seeks to unlock the full potential of interiors, filling them with intentional and meaningful elements that promote emotional balance and enrich our relationship with the spaces we inhabit.

Rugsandrugs is an attempt to interpret various forms of contemporary art through rugs. The inspiration for this project comes from various directions in contemporary art such as photography, painting, ceramics and even dance. The brand was founded in 2022 by Tetiana Shaleva and Yulia Salata. At a time of irreversible change in Ukraine, the founders intend to capture the Ukrainian cultural heritage through this project.
